El Pasoan drives away in a new 2021 Ford F-150

As the Hunt School of Nursing’s 10-year anniversary celebration came to a close, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso had one more thing to celebrate as a lucky El Pasoan drove off in his new Ford F-150.

On Monday, May 9, Miguel Castaneda – a resident of the 79905 ZIP code where the TTUHSC El Paso campus is located – picked up the Texas Tech Raider-red truck, which he won after entering a raffle to raise funds for Hunt School of Nursing scholarships. The truck, which features an FX4 Off-Road package, is valued at $55,075.

TTUHSC El Paso collaborated with Casa Ford and the Paso del Norte Community Foundation to facilitate the raffle, selling 600 tickets and raising more than $100,000 for student scholarships. The winner was announced during the university’s Cirque de Corazón event, held Friday, May 6. The event capped off the yearlong celebration of the Hunt School of Nursing’s decade milestone.

El Pasoan Miguel Castaneda visited Lone Star Title in his brand-new F-150 truck following the Hunt School of Nursing's 10-year anniversary celebration. He purchased his raffle ticket after seeing the truck promoted outside Lone Star Title, which was the presenting sponsor of the Cirque de Corazón event.

The Paso del Norte Community Foundation selected the winner electronically, using the Random Picker system by VeroMotion. Paso del Norte Community Foundation CEO Tracy Yellen and the organization’s staff oversaw the entry of data and computerized selection of the winner. The Random Picker system selects raffle winners using a random number generator, then creates a public record for details on the drawing. No changes are possible after the final drawing.

The Hunt School of Nursing began the celebration of its 10-year anniversary in 2021, highlighting the school’s contribution to higher education and health care in the Borderplex while combating the critical shortage of nurses in West Texas. Currently, 87% of students from the school are El Paso natives, fulfilling TTUHSC El Paso’s mission to create more educational opportunities for local residents.

To date, the Hunt School of Nursing has graduated more than 1,000 students, with a majority of those graduates staying in the region. The school has partnerships with every hospital in the El Paso community, which includes both clinical rotation opportunities and job placements post-graduation.
