Philosophical Society of Texas Tours TTUHSC El Paso Campus
On Friday, Feb. 4, the Philosophical Society of Texas visited the TTUHSC El Paso campus to get an inside look at the future of health education.
As part of the society’s annual meeting, titled “Future of Work,” members toured facilities on campus that showcase TTUHSC El Paso’s innovative curriculum. In a tour led by TTUHSC El Paso President Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A., Hunt School of Dental Medicine Dean Richard Black, D.D.S., M.S., and staff at the Training and Educational Center for Healthcare Simulation, the society interacted with high-tech medical manikins used to train students and residents.
In the university’s newest building, Medical Sciences Building II, members got the dental student experience as they visited the Hunt School of Dental Medicine’s Dental Learning Center. There, Dr. Black highlighted the school’s one-of-a-kind curriculum and the center’s 80 dental simulator stations. Just across the street, the society visited the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic, where students and faculty provide low-cost oral health care to Borderland residents.
The Philosophical Society of Texas was founded in 1837. Members, all Texans, strive to establish research into literary, scientific and philosophical studies in Texas and elsewhere, while also maintaining the preservation of these important documents.
