Paso Del Norte Community Foundation, Casa Auto Group Raffling a Jeep to Celebrate TTUHSC El Paso’s 10th Anniversary

Adventure starts HERE on April 4, National Jeep 4x4 Day

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso is celebrating its 10-year anniversary by partnering with Casa Auto Group to support the future of health care in our Borderplex.

This partnership will create opportunities for the community to support TTUHSC El Paso students through a raffle for a 2022 Raider Red four-wheel drive Jeep Gladiator Overland pickup truck. The Jeep is valued at $56,900.

The goal is to raise $200,000 for student scholarships by selling 2,000 tickets. Tickets are $100 for one ticket, $275 for three tickets and $500 for six tickets. The raffle will be administered by the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation and tickets can be purchased on the organization's website. The Paso del Norte Community Foundation’s staff will oversee the entry of data and computerized selection of the winner.

The campaign kicks off today, April 4, also known as National Jeep 4x4 Day, and will run until late summer. All funds raised will go toward scholarships for TTUHSC El Paso’s future physicians, dentists and nurses.

This is an incredible opportunity for the community to come together and support the future leaders of health care in our region, which will in turn lead to increasing health care access for the underserved members of our community. The clinical practice of TTUHSC El Paso’s Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso, is expanding specialties so families never have to leave home to receive world-class patient care.

"Rev up your generosity and drive positive change in our Borderplex by entering the raffle for this Jeep generously provided by Casa Auto Group,” said TTUHSC El Paso President Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A. “Not only do you have a chance to win a rugged ride, but you're also helping pave the way for a healthier future by supporting TTUHSC El Paso student scholarships.”

There is a critical shortage of health care professionals in our region, and TTUHSC El Paso is committed to addressing this challenge by growing our own health care leaders. Currently, 43% of TTUHSC El Paso students are from our Borderplex region.

In the past 10 years, the university has made significant strides in expanding its academic programs, increasing enrollment, and developing clinical partnerships with local hospitals and health care organizations. In the decade since its establishment, TTUHSC El Paso has graduated over 2,000 health care professionals, many of whom choose to remain in the area and serve their communities.

Despite these efforts, there is still much work to be done to ensure that our region has a robust and diverse health care workforce to meet the needs of our community.

That's where the Jeep raffle comes in. By supporting student scholarships, we can help ensure the best and brightest students have access to the world-class education and training they need to become the next generation of health care leaders.

“At Casa Auto Group, we believe that investing in our community is essential and supporting the education of our future health care leaders today is the best way for us to contribute,” Casa Auto Group CEO Ronnie Lowenfield said. “Our motto is ‘Redefining the car business by serving others, doing what’s right, and valuing people.’ We believe that our responsibility as a business extends far beyond selling cars; our people and our community are our greatest assets, and we will continually strive to serve those around us any way we can.”

Scholarships have a transformative impact on students' lives, providing not only financial support but also encouragement and motivation to pursue their dreams and make a difference in their communities.

For many students, scholarships are the difference between pursuing a career in health care or giving up their dreams due to financial barriers.

Kyanna Spain, a first-year Hunt School of Dental Medicine student from El Paso, comes from a military family and knows firsthand the transformative impact of scholarships. She was awarded the GECU scholarship, which was four times the amount offered by other dental schools. Although she considers herself from both El Paso and Austin, she loved El Paso so much that she had to come back.

“I remember receiving the call from Dr. Richard Black, (Dean of the Hunt School of Dental Medicine), offering me my scholarship like it happened yesterday,” Spain said. “I was accepted on the official day of acceptances and received my scholarship that same week. On the call, he told me that I belonged back in El Paso and that he would help make it happen through my scholarship offer.”

This scholarship not only allowed her to attend a top-tier dental institution without financial burden, but it also reinforced her sense of belonging in her hometown.

Spain had a clear vision of her academic pursuits upon entering the University of Texas at Austin. She was drawn to dentistry due to her passion for both art and science, making her the pioneer in her family to pursue a professional education. Upon completion of her studies at the Hunt School of Dental Medicine, Spain will join the ranks of a minority group as one of the few Black dentists in the United States. The American Dental Association reports that less than 4% of dentists in the country identify as Black.

“I’m so blessed to have such support in my dental journey and cannot thank TTUHSC El Paso, the Hunt School of Dental Medicine and scholarship supporters enough,” Spain said.

Support from the local community has been critical in keeping talented Borderplex students in El Paso as they earn their education. In the past 10 years, donors from the region have stepped in to assist students with financial challenges, relieving students from the burden of taking on jobs outside of school to pay bills and support their families.

In 2021-2022, 44% of TTUHSC El Paso students received scholarships totaling $2,174,150. Gifts from donors have made it possible for the university to assist students who have unmet financial needs.

By participating in the Jeep raffle, the community can help make a difference in the lives of TTUHSC El Paso students and support the university's mission to improve the health of our region.
