TTUHSC El Paso Welcomes Retired Army Brig. Gen. Jack R. Fox

TTUHSC El Paso launched its Values-Based Culture Leadership Series with a town hall meeting on Oct. 12 featuring guest speaker retired Army Brig. Gen. Jack R. Fox.

TTUHSC El Paso has embraced a values-based culture, highlighting the university's core values of advancement, service, accountability, teamwork, respect and integrity.

Fox touched on these values from a leadership perspective, offering insights from his career in the U.S. Army and his service in state government and the community.

Fox served as cabinet secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services from November 2014 to December 2018. Prior to this appointment, he served with the Army, Army Reserve and the New Mexico National Guard. Fox is a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell and New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in government from NMSU, he was commissioned as a U.S. Army infantry second lieutenant in 1969. While stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia, he earned a master’s degree in education from Georgia State University.

Following his initial retirement in 1995, Fox taught social studies at Hereford High School in Texas, where he was selected Koobraey Teacher of the Year in 1998 and 1999. At Hereford, he was a coach for the girls’ softball and cross-county teams. In 1999, he was selected to serve as commandant of cadets at NMMI. In 2004, he was selected to serve as president of St. John’s Military School in Salina, Kansas. In 2007, he was recalled to serve as deputy adjutant general of the New Mexico National Guard, a position he held until his retirement in 2010.

He is a member of the NMMI Hall of Fame and the NMSU ROTC Honor Company. He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Higher Learning Commission. General Fox and his wife, Marvine, have been married for 52 years and live in Placitas, New Mexico.

During his visit to El Paso, Fox visited with student leaders, staff at TTUHSC El Paso's off-campus clinics, and members of the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Progress321 professional leadership group.
