Borderland Community Celebrates Holiday Season With Two-Night Drive-Through Light Show
Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso and The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus brought a safe, drive-through holiday light show to residents of the Paso del Norte region. The 7th annual Cookies, Cocoa and Holiday Cheer event took place this past weekend on Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4.
From the safety and comfort of their vehicles, hundreds of El Pasoans enjoyed the drive-through evening light show provided by HB Pro Sound. The event took place outside the Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso at Transmountain clinic and The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus.
The first night of the event kicked off with a countdown by TTUHSC El Paso President Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A, El Paso Electric President and CEO Kelly Tomblin, and The Hospitals of Providence Emergency Department Director Arlene Castanon.
Vehicles full of families enjoyed a musical, drive-through tour that included Santa’s workshop, Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Snowflake Princesses and the Grinch. Buildings were brightened with colorful lights and holiday scenes. El Paso Electric’s Power Pack mascots and El Paso Locomotive FC’s Ozzie the Bat also joined in the festivities.
“Our annual Cookies, Cocoa and Holiday Cheer event has been bringing joy to the El Paso community for seven years now,” said Andrea Tawney, Ph.D., TTUHSC El Paso’s vice president for Institutional Advancement. “It’s been a challenging couple of years for our community, so our TTP El Paso team and partners at The Hospitals of Providence came together to bring holiday cheer for families, and especially our health care heroes. Seeing the excitement from some of our youngest attendees makes it all worth it.”
Each night, the first 500 vehicles received a holiday bag loaded with cookies, cocoa and coloring books for the entire family to enjoy. Sponsored by El Paso Electric, the annual event brings holiday cheer to the community and creates traditions for El Paso families.
“It is so special to see our community come together for such a festive occasion that is the annual Cookies, Cocoa and Holiday Cheer event,” said El Paso Electric President and CEO Kelly A. Tomblin. “El Paso Electric is proud to partner with TTP El Paso because they provide much-needed resources to families and children of our region. This drive-through holiday light show takes health and safety into consideration for those individuals who still wish to partake in the festivities.”
