Community Faculty of the Year
2021 Community Faculty of the Year Award: Dr. Mina Haidarian
Mina Haidarian, M.D., was selected as 2021 Community Faculty of the Year by the Office for Outreach and Community Engagement.
TTUHSC El Paso President Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A., and Vice President for Outreach and Community Engagement Jose Manuel de la Rosa M.D., M.Sc., presented Dr. Haidarian with the prestigious award on Oct. 27.
As a participant in the Community Faculty program, Dr. Haidarian has a non-salaried faculty appointment as clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine, a role she has served since June 2013. Community faculty physicians such as Dr. Haidarian play a critical role educating TTUHSC El Paso students, who gain real-world experience by shadowing practicing physicians.
For over seven years, Dr. Haidarian has been an asset and an outstanding community preceptor for the Foster School of Medicine’s family medicine clerkship. Despite the COVID-19 setbacks the medical community has faced, Dr. Haidarian has taken on numerous third-year medical students each block and given each student the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to be a successful physician.
Dr. Haidarian has been board certified in family medicine since 1995. From 1995-2010, Dr. Haidarian had a thriving medical practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was nominated by her peers as one of the Top Ten Doctors in the Albuquerque Journal from 2007 to 2010. While in Albuquerque, she helped to create the Women's Healthcare Center at Presbyterian Hospital and served as a member of the executive council of the Presbyterian Health System.
Dr. Haidarian comes from a family devoted to helping others. Her mother taught holistic medicine, three of her siblings became engineers, and the other two became doctors. In fact, one is a popular podiatrist right here in El Paso. In May 2010, Dr. Haidarian moved to El Paso to be closer to her family and opened her new medical practice, Westwind Medical Associates, where she provides adult, adolescent and pediatric medicine, women's health services, anti-aging medicine and a weight management program.
Dr. Haidarian received her medical degree from the University of Santiago School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and completed her family practice residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She is licensed to practice medicine in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Dr. Haidarian is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a diplomate of the American Colposcopy Society.
