TTUHSC El Paso Paints the Town Red

City Proclaims May 18 as TTUHSC El Paso 10th Anniversary Day

During the El Paso City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 23, Mayor Oscar Leeser proclaimed May 18 as Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso 10th Anniversary Day. Established as an independent university in the Texas Tech University System in 2013, TTUHSC El Paso is celebrating 10 years of improving lives and empowering generations through accessible health education and world-class patient care.

TTUHSC El Paso President and Dean of the Foster School of Medicine Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A., university students and employees accepted the framed proclamation from Mayor Leeser and members of city council.

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of TTUHSC El Paso, the university “painted the town red.” Several buildings, structures, and art pieces were lit Raider Red from May 15 to May 20 in commemoration of the anniversary.

Raider Red was displayed on the freeway overpasses downtown, including the Campbell Street on-ramp, the sculptures and freeway spindles at Airway Boulevard, the El Paso Convention Center sculptures, the El Paso International Airport, One San Jacinto Plaza and the WestStar Tower parking garage.

A contributor of $634.4 million annually to the local economy, TTUHSC El Paso empowers our community by removing barriers to health care and directly impacting Hispanics and residents of the U.S.-Mexico border.

TTUHSC El Paso has transformed the lives of over 2,100 graduates and will continue its impactful role in the Borderplex providing for a healthy community. It will remain steadfast in its mission of improving access to world-class health care in underserved communities, inspiring future generations and growing our own physicians, dentists, nurses and biomedical researchers.
