Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso Expands Reach with Northeast El Paso Surgical Clinic
New state-of-the-art facility provides specialized care, with plans for future specialties
Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso is expanding its services with the opening of the Northeast El Paso Surgical Clinic, designed to serve the growing health care needs of our Borderplex community. The clinic, at 9830 Gateway North Boulevard, began seeing patients in late 2024.
The clinical building was acquired in 2022 and renovated with the goal of providing world-class patient care to residents of Northeast El Paso. Over the past decade, the area has experienced a population surge of nearly 20%, with continued growth projected, increasing the demand for accessible, world-class patient care. Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso is the clinical practice of Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Foster School of Medicine.
Leading the clinical team at the Northeast El Paso Surgical Clinic is Roger Skiles, M.D., FACS, a head and neck surgery specialist who provides comprehensive ear, nose, and throat care. In addition, Michael Maldonado, O.D., M.B.A., the clinical director of ocular sciences, offers ophthalmology services several days a week, broadening the scope of care available at this location.
“We’re thrilled to show our community the level of specialized care they can access close to home. This clinic represents our promise to invest in the health of our neighbors by delivering world-class services that address the unique needs of this growing region," said Dr. Skiles. "It’s more than just a clinic — it’s a hub for innovative care that will expand and evolve to meet the future needs of our patients.”
The clinic has the capability to further expand, with opportunities to introduce additional specialties such as orthopaedic, urology, oncology, and hepatology. These are all specialties that are drastically underserved in our Borderplex region. The current expansion is the latest example of Texas Tech Health El Paso and Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso’s effort to bring health care closer to residents. In recent years, Texas Tech Health El Paso introduced neurological and psychiatric telemedicine services to reach patients across rural West Texas.
"The opening of our Northeast El Paso Surgical Clinic will improve health care access and outcomes for the residents of our community,” said Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A., president of Texas Tech Health El Paso. “This clinic, along with our upcoming Steve and Nancy Fox Cancer Center, will be beacons of hope for our entire Borderplex region."
