TTUHSC El Paso's Hunt School of Nursing Hosts Third Induction Ceremony for Sigma Theta Tau's Alpha Beta Theta Chapter
International honor society inducts 12 new members into prestigious ranks of nursing scholars
EL PASO, Texas — On April 21, a group of dedicated nursing students gathered in anticipation, their lives forever changed by the pursuit of excellence and a passion for health care as the Hunt School of Nursing played host to the third induction ceremony of Sigma Theta Tau's Alpha Beta Theta Chapter.
The chapter welcomed 12 new members into the prestigious ranks of the international honor society on the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso campus. United by their commitment to providing exceptional nursing care, these inductees represent a bright future for the nursing profession in service to our Borderplex communities.
The event marked a significant milestone for the local chapter, which was established in April 8, 2022, during the international organization's centennial celebration. As one of three regional chapters and 540 worldwide, the Alpha Beta Theta chapter upholds Sigma Theta Tau's celebration of nursing excellence through scholarship, leadership and service.
“We’re thrilled to welcome a new group of exceptional nursing students into our Alpha Beta Theta chapter,” said the chapter’s president, Hunt School of Nursing assistant professor Clarissa Silva, Ph.D., R.N., EBPC. “Their passion for nursing excellence and commitment to advancing world health embodies the values of Sigma Theta Tau, and we’re confident that they will make a significant impact in their communities and the wider health care field.”
Inductees must possess a 3.0 G.P.A. at the baccalaureate and 3.5 G.P.A. at the master’s level to be considered for membership, which is by invitation. The chapter currently has 61 members.
During the ceremony, inductees donned purple stoles and tassels, the official colors of Sigma Theta Tau. The colors symbolize the organization’s core values of love, courage and honor. The 12 inductees will proudly wear this regalia during the Hunt School of Nursing’s spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13, as part of this year’s class of 83 graduates.
“Being invited to join Sigma Theta Tau is truly an honor,” said inductee Jessica Maeurer. “What attracted me most to the organization is the wealth of opportunities it offers for continuing education. As a member, I have access to invaluable resources such as journals, classes and conferences that might otherwise be more expensive or difficult to obtain. These resources will undoubtedly help me grow and excel in my nursing career.”
