Texas Tech Health El Paso Celebrates Inaugural Interprofessional Education Leadership Awards and Development of Interprofessional Education Councils
Texas Tech Health El Paso is excited to announce the inaugural winners of the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Leadership Awards, recognizing faculty, staff, and students for their exceptional leadership and service in advancing IPE within our institution.
These awards celebrate the collaborative spirit of health care education and emphasize the importance of teamwork in providing patient-centered care. Nominations were evaluated by the Texas Tech Health El Paso IPE Curriculum Council, and the winners are:
IPE Faculty Leadership and Service Award
1st Place (tie):
2024 TeamSTEPPS Faculty Case Lead Ambassadors: Dr. Mariela Lane, Dr. Salma Elwazeer, and Dr. Maureen Francis.
Texas Tech Health El Paso Society, Community, and Immersion Course – Immersion Team: Dr. Salma Elwazeer, Dr. Lee Rosenthal, Liz Valdez, Christina Arambula, Valeria De La Hoya, Dr. Gilberto Garcia and the Texas Tech Health El Paso Spanish Program.

Staff IPE Leadership and Service Award

Student IPE Leadership and Service Award

The Office of Interprofessional Education is proud to recognize these outstanding champions of IPE who have dedicated their time and talent to fostering collaboration across disciplines at Texas Tech Health El Paso.
In addition to celebrating these award recipients, Texas Tech Health El Paso is pleased to announce the formation of the Interprofessional Education Leadership Councils as part of the institution’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) for academic reaccreditation. These councils will play a crucial role in advancing IPE across the institution.
The IPE Evaluation Council, chaired by Dr. Faeq Quadri from the Hunt School of Dental Medicine, will develop and oversee systematic program evaluations for IPE, providing analysis and recommendations to the IPE Curriculum Council.

Dr. Julie Blow, assistant managing director, Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.
The IPE Research and Scholarship Council, led by Dr. Christiane Herber-Valdez, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs, will collaborate with the IPE Curriculum and Evaluation Councils to advance research and scholarship in interprofessional education. The council will also work to build partnerships with other institutions and organizations to expand knowledge and improve IPE practices.
