Appliance and Electrical Fire Safety

Did you know? Plug-in fans, microwaves, heaters, coffee makers, refrigerators and other portable electrical appliances can create a fire hazard by overloading electrical outlets.

For this reason, portable electrical appliances are prohibited in individual and shared offices and workstations.

To help keep our workplace safe, Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Department of Safety Services will be educating the campus community about appliance and electrical fire safety during Fire Prevention Month in October.

In November, Safety Services will begin red-tagging prohibited appliances for identification and removal.

In December, red-tagged appliances or devices that have not been removed by the owner will be removed by Safety Services.
