El Paso Chamber of Commerce Selects Institutional Advancement Team Members for Board Membership and Leadership Programs

Three members of Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Institutional Advancement leadership team have been selected for key positions in El Paso Chamber of Commerce committees and programs, further strengthening the university's engagement with our local community.

Andrea Tawney, Ph.D., vice president for Institutional Advancement, has been selected to join the Chamber’s Foundation Board. The board oversees the Chamber Foundation, a fundraising subsidiary that supports the Chamber’s community advocacy efforts. Dr. Tawney's extensive career, spanning leadership roles in the U.S. Air Force to her current position, has earned her accolades, including El Paso Inc.’s Women of Impact award in 2023. Dr. Tawney oversees fundraising and marketing and communications for the university, contributing significantly to the success of the Office of Institutional Advancement in raising millions of dollars in gifts and grants for Texas Tech Health El Paso.

"I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Andrea Tawney, Veronique Masterson, and Danielle Urbina to their new roles within the El Paso Chamber,” Andrea Hutchins, El Paso Chamber President and CEO, said. “Their expertise and dedication are invaluable assets to our community. Dr. Tawney recently played a pivotal role in securing a historic $25 million investment from El Paso business leaders Steve and Nancy Fox to establish a comprehensive cancer center at Texas Tech Health El Paso. Under her leadership, the Office of Institutional Advancement has implemented a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship program, resulting in significant contributions to educational programs, research and preventive health care initiatives.

“I’m honored to be a part of the Chamber’s Foundation Board,” Dr. Tawney said. “I’m eager to share my passion for community development and higher education to foster meaningful partnerships between our community and the Chamber. Together, we’ll strive to create opportunities that empower our city’s educational institutions and local businesses to improve the overall prosperity and well-being of our vibrant El Paso community.”

Veronique Masterson, assistant vice president for marketing and communications for Institutional Advancement, has been selected to join the Chamber’s Board of Directors, where she will serve a two-year term. She also serves on the El Paso Chamber's Healthcare Coalition Committee.

With nearly two decades of experience in marketing and communications, Masterson has been instrumental in highlighting the university’s role in closing the gaps of health care disparities in our Borderplex. She oversees marketing campaigns for the university and Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics, Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic and directs the university's social media presence. She’s led significant projects such as the redesign of the clinical website and launch of the university's first alumni magazine.

Masterson is actively involved in our community, serving on the board of directors for nonprofit news organization El Paso Matters and as a community advisory board member for PBS El Paso.

“I’m delighted to join the Chamber’s Board of Directors and looking forward to being part of a team committed to fostering economic growth, driving innovation and promoting collaboration among businesses,” Masterson said. “I’m eager to help guide Chamber programs that empower our local businesses and elevate El Paso's standing on the regional and national stage.”

Completing the trio is Danielle Urbina, director of communications for Institutional Advancement, who has been selected to participate in Class 45 of the Chamber’s Leadership El Paso program. Each year, Leadership El Paso brings together local professionals to learn more about the major economic sectors, organizations, businesses and community programs in the El Paso region. Participants meet top leaders of Borderplex organizations, who share their vision, life lessons and practical leadership advice. The class will also complete a project to create positive change in El Paso.

Urbina has more than 10 years of experience in newsrooms and publications to higher education. She is focused on improving the community and spreading awareness of an organization’s impact. At Texas Tech Health El Paso, she leads communications strategy for the university and its medical and dental clinics. Urbina manages the Office of Institutional Advancement's editorial and media relations teams to showcase the university's impactful work for local, regional and national audiences.

Outside of Texas Tech Health El Paso, Urbina is an active volunteer with several community organizations. She serves as assistant chair for the Junior League of El Paso’s Women’s Wellness Summit, and is a board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso and Progress 321.

"I'm honored to join Class 45 of Leadership El Paso and excited to learn from the incredible businesses and organizations driving growth in our community," said Urbina. "I look forward to engaging with my talented fellow classmates while working together to shape the future of my hometown of El Paso."

These appointments reflect the continued commitment of Texas Tech Health El Paso to engage with the Chamber to contribute to the betterment of El Paso's business, health care and educational landscapes.
