Snow Family Legacy
Bob and Jane Snow Leave a Lasting Legacy at Texas Tech Health El Paso with Newest Scholarship
Couple impacts lives of nearly 40 nursing students
Snow is a rare occurrence in the desert.
Thankfully, the blessings of Bob Snow and his wife, Jane, have been plentiful in our Borderplex over several decades.
Since 1997, the Snows have exemplified a spirit of philanthropy and dedication to Texas Tech Health El Paso, leaving an indelible mark on the university and the community it serves.
Both native El Pasoans, Bob has had a long career in banking, and Jane is a seasoned lawyer. The two have been instrumental in shaping the trajectory and success of Texas Tech Health El Paso, actively contributing their time, resources, and expertise to advance its mission.
In 2019, the Snows' generosity culminated in a $25,000 gift for scholarships at the Hunt School of Nursing. The gift was matched by the university for total scholarship funding of $50,000 that has impacted the lives of 38 nursing students.
The Snows have been so inspired after meeting their scholarship recipients each year that they renewed their pledge for an additional $25,000 in scholarships for nursing students in 2023.
"What inspires both of us is being around young people who want to work hard and improve their lives,” Bob said. “It motivates me to give when I see the next generation working so hard, balancing family and a career or school. All you have to do is walk around the Texas Tech Health El Paso campus and it will motivate you. I try to talk to all who I can when I’m on campus, and you can see it in their faces and hear it when they talk. They’re excited about the opportunity Texas Tech is giving them.”
Bob’s longstanding involvement on the President's Development Council is just one example the Snows’ commitment to fostering growth and innovation within the institution.
Established in 2019, the President's Development Council harnesses the collective wisdom and experience of volunteer community leaders to provide invaluable guidance and support to Texas Tech Health El Paso’s leadership team.
Bob played a pivotal role in galvanizing sponsorships and fostering a culture of giving for nursing student scholarships during the Hunt School of Nursing’s 10-year anniversary in 2022. Thanks to his tireless efforts, the university exceeded its yearlong goal by a significant margin, raising over $1.876 million in nursing scholarship funds.
This remarkable achievement was made possible through an array of fundraising endeavors. Initiatives such as the Champions of Trusted Heroes employer-gift matching campaign, generous contributions from local businesses and community organizations, as well as a collaborative truck raffle alongside Casa Ford and the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, all contributed to the overwhelming success in reaching and surpassing fundraising goals.
In addition to sharing their valuable leadership experience and connecting the university to a network of fellow community philanthropists, the Snows have generously given more than $55,000 over the years to Texas Tech Health El Paso. A majority of their contributions have supported scholarships at the Hunt School of Nursing, nurturing the next generation of health care heroes.
One student who has received a scholarship from Bob and Jane Snow is Monica Angel. She’s graduating from the Hunt School of Nursing’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program this May. Angel has wanted to become a nurse since she was a child.
"Growing up, my family needed several different health care services," Angel said. "This ranged from chronic respiratory problems, to mental health providers, all the way to critical care areas and surgery. In all these instances, my family truly felt that it was the nurses who had the most positive impact in the care we received. The nurses we encountered sparked my desire to assist the people in my community, mirroring the profound impact they had on me and my family."
Angel said receiving a scholarship from Bob and Jane Snow means having the opportunity to work less part-time hours and focus that energy to school work and school organizations.
"Having scholarship support from donors helped me to not focus on financial burdens,” Angel said. “An accelerated program is hard enough, having to work while in this program has been very difficult at times, but through support from the Bob and Jane Snow Scholarship, I've had the opportunity to get more involved and start networking this semester with campus tours, student panels, and student organizations."
Despite accomplished careers, the Snows always made it a priority to weave service and volunteerism into their day-to-day lives. The Snows devoted their time serving on the boards of numerous El Paso-area charitable organizations.
As champions of education, health care, and community development, Bob and Jane Snow epitomize the spirit of philanthropy and civic engagement, leaving an enduring legacy that uplifts and inspires future generations at Texas Tech Health El Paso.
