Conference Overview: This Greater El Paso conference aims to increase knowledge and enhance the practices of transfusion medicine, patient blood management and hemostasis in various patient care settings, which may be applicable to a multitude of health care providers.
Target audience: All physicians and nurses, community and academic settings (including all residents and students).
Learning Objectives Following the conference, the participant should be able to:
Describe the clinical indications, appropriate uses and adverse effects of routine blood component transfusions.
Discuss the reasoning and benefits for implementing a hospital patient blood management program, as well as therapeutic alternatives to routine blood transfusions.
Describe current best practices of transfusion, patient blood management, and hemostastic strategies for trauma and acute care bleeding.
Discuss the role of ancillary support that nursing, pharmacy, blood bank, blood collection centers and education programs can contribute to best practices in blood management.
Attendance: In-person attendance of this seminar is highly encouraged. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided at no additional cost. For individuals outside the Greater El Paso region, or in the event that an in-person event is not permissible, a streaming option will be available. A streaming link will be emailed to all registrants on the week of the seminar.
